Ever feel spiritually dry as a mom?
Tell me I’m not the only one! We Christian mamas put in lots of time teaching our kids to know and love Christ.
We spend our days reading Bible Story books, singing praise songs and watching Veggie Tales. But there’s no substitute for our own time ALONE with Jesus.
There’s no substitute for our own time ALONE with Jesus.
And if we neglect our time with him, we risk running ourselves ragged. How do we know if we need more time with him? Here are 5 real-life, everyday tell-tale signs that I am spiritually beginning to run on E:
- I am genuinely disappointed when there’s no wait at the BMV (and the kids aren’t along). True story!! When going to the BMV is the least-interrupted time of my day, it can be a let-down to not have to take a number. That was going to be some great time alone with my favorite Bible app!
- I can’t bring myself to turn off the van once I arrive home from an outing with kids. With half the kids asleep and everyone strapped into their seats like straightjackets, no one is dumping out toys, pulling on my clothes, or getting undressed when they shouldn’t be. I take another spin around the block and call it a “prayer drive”—mom for the win!
- I “forget” to wake my toddler up from their ultra-long nap. You know what I’m talking about. Suddenly that two-hour nap stretched into four and the quiet moments were all too delicious to end—even though that little firecracker’s now going to be up till midnight!
- I have threatened punishment throughout the course of the day more times than I can count, and I’ve had to follow through. This is not pretty for anyone involved. Especially at my lowest moment when I said, “What were you thinking?!” exasperatedly when the two-year old spilled her juice. Again.
- I realize I’m actually GLAD my husband had that post-bedtime work project and won’t be home until late. The kids are adorable (and quiet!) when they’re asleep and the house is so peaceful. Being off the hook from watching sports and fixing late-night snacks means more time with my Bible, journal, and mug of Sleepytime tea.
I know that with littles underfoot we feel like silence and solitude are pipe dreams at this stage in life. But that’s exactly why we need Jesus all the more!
Silence & solitude are pipe dreams at this stage--but that’s why we need Jesus all the more! Share on XLet’s run to him, and drink him in! Let’s make the most of every quiet moment we get. When we fill our souls with Christ, we have that much more of him to give away 😊.
Can you relate to any of these? What are the tell-tale signs that you are needing more of Jesus?
